Important Information to Know Before You Apply!

There are 30 seats available on the LA City Youth Council, 2 for each of the 15 Council Districts of Los Angeles.

Before you apply, please review the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be 16 to 25 years old at the time of application 
  • Live within the boundaries of the City of Los Angeles (click on the link and enter your address to verify if you live within LA City boundaries)
  • Provide one to two references (on the application you will be asked to provide their name, email, and/or phone number)

Additionally, please note the following:

  • The application will open annually, follow us on Instagram @LACityYouth for more updates.

If selected, you will have the following responsibilities and opportunities:

  • Attend meetings twice monthly and participate in other special youth council activities, which will be held virtually or in person.
  • Identify solutions to improve programs, policies, and practices affecting young people in the City.
  • Partner with community organizations, civic leaders, and other youth leaders to develop new strategies and approaches to serving youth. 
  • Receive training and leadership development from City partners on a wide range of issues.  
  • Assist in the drafting and presentation of recommendations to members of the City Council and the Mayor on issues that include, but are not limited to, City budgets, programs, and policies related to youth development.
